Another great bunch of guys and gals in this summer's classes.

Each of our guide school students are well on their way to the careers they had only dreamed of a short time ago—getting all the basic outfitting skills under their belts with the guidance of seasoned instructors ELM holds in such high esteem.

Michael and I looked on as the students worked on their packing skills, setting up the camps, loading the stock into trailers, pulling the strings of horses and mules, and much more. The camp cook students prepared meals that would make any outfitter sit up and take notice. All of the pack trips into the hills went great; lots of hard work and great fun at the same time.

Our September class here in Montana will be starting very soon and as always we will visit with them "in nature's classroom."

Seriously these guide school students just finished up a successful mock hunt on some bedded elk in dark timber. Elk do care what you look like or more what you don't look like when up close and personal. When guiding & archery hunting for elk, face camo or camouflaged head netting is a must!

Here is an "07" class working on Mantaing loads that they will soon be loading on the pack animals. This is a very intrigue part of hands on training.

Nothing better than a nice hot cup of good ole cowboy coffee in the mornings. Those cast iron pans hanging up make the best eggs and bacon. Can't get much better than this! There's always a good pot of coffee on at our guide schools.

NEW CLASS STARTING IN "MAY"

2008 classes will be starting soon. Our newest guide training school class starts the end of May in Montana. We are excited about this new class and we are anticipating the arrivals of the Jun and July classes as well. Students are very busy working on their home study prep course and are looking forward to going to hands on guide school. A new beginning to a great career. Becoming a Guide Packer or Wilderness Camp Cook.

Our Grandson Michael came up to spend part of the summer and traveled around with us visiting the students at our hands on schools. Who knows maybe some day he will be working for an Outfitter right here in the Rockies. He already has a lot of hunting experience under his belt. Just goes to show you you're never too young to dream!

We enjoy going on an afternoon ride after a good days visit with our guide and packer students. The air is crisp and the scenery is great! So quiet and peaceful. There's nothing like being here in the hills and mountains of the Rockies!

Another Summer, another great group of students. Julie and I had a great time visiting with each of the students. Most went right to work for some of the best Outfits in the Rockies. A few had some college to finish up and will be back up next year ready for work. While we visited with each student individually [which we always do] they each said- guide school was great and it does take a lot of work in this business. They all learned so much and are so excited about getting started in their new careers.
The days are getting shorter, bow season has started and the elk are bugling it's a great time to be in the hills. Good Hunting Everyone!

This is Mark, a student who just graduated from our program. He is planning on going to work this fall. Mark is in his early 50's. When Michael and I visited with his class they were totally impressed with his heart and desire, not to mention the great stamina he has. "What is his past profession?" you might ask. A tree trimmer who actually climbs up to get the job done.
